What’s in store for Apple users in iOS 12.1

iPhone users are left hanging

As Apple keeps on upgrading its software, iPhone users are left hanging as to what the latest iOS 12.1 brings. There are 3 major features that Apple users can expect to experience in the updated version.

Released on October 30, 2018, the updated version of the iOS 12 series now comes with a new FaceTime feature.

All iPhone and iPad users can now do a group FaceTime – either audio or video. A group of 32 people can do video or audio chats in just one call, either through the FaceTime app or through the Messages. This big feature of the updated version is surely a come-on to group of friends or families.

The updated version also boasts of about 76 full new Emojis, taken from the Emoji 11.0 list released in June.

Majority of Android smartphones have already been supporting dual SIMs so Apple has now included in the updated version a dual SIM support for the new iPhone XS, XS Max or XR devices. These devices only have SIM slot, which is for the regular nano SIM, so if users decide to have an additional SIM, it will be in the form of an eSIM. However, the eSIM is not yet available as of today so users still have to wait for a little time before this new feature takes effect. But users can have the option to convert their nano SIM into eSIM. They just need to request this from their network companies.

The updated version was also released by Apple in the hope to resolve some of the issues in the earlier versions. These include the issue that caused messages to be merged into one thread when two users were signed in with the same Apple ID on multiple iPhones.

It also hopes to resolve the issue in the Phone app that could cause phone numbers to appear without their corresponding contact name, the issue that prevented some voicemails from appearing in the Phone app, and addresses an issue that could prevent adding or removing family members from Family Sharing.

The updated version also fixes an issue that could prevent Screen Time from reporting specific websites in the activity report and an issue that could cause MDM Device Enrollment to report an Invalid Profile error for some enterprise users.

In iOS 12.1, Apple adds a performance management feature for iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down, including the option to disable this feature if an unexpected shutdown occurs.

But what’s best about this updated version is its ability to inform users that it is unable to verify if a genuine Apple battery is in iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR through the Battery Health.

For some users who may have already downloaded the new version, keep an eye on these features and check if they fall within your expectations.
